About BCA
Evidence-based advocacy for density done well in Bronte.
Who We Are
The Bronte Community Association (BCA) is a community association representing residents in and around Bronte, in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs (Waverley LGA). BCA is planning-focused, evidence-based, and deliberately non-adversarial.
BCA was formed by local residents in response to the Hewlett Street State Significant Development Application — a proposal to build a part-9-storey, 100–120 apartment tower on land zoned R3 Medium Density Residential with a 9.5-metre height limit.
What We Do
- •Monitor planning applications affecting Bronte and the surrounding area
- •Engage professional planning and legal consultants to prepare evidence-based submissions
- •Coordinate community submissions during public exhibition periods
- •Maintain dialogue with Waverley Council, the Department of Planning, and developers
- •Provide factual, accessible information to residents about planning processes
Our Approach
We accept that Bronte will see more density. We support housing that respects the character of the area, the amenity of residents, and the environmental qualities that make Bronte worth living in. Growth should deliver better transport and community facilities — not just bigger buildings.
We do not oppose development. We oppose development at a scale that the planning controls were never designed to accommodate, approved through a process that limits community participation.
Governance
BCA is incorporated as an association under the NSW Associations Incorporation Act 2009. The association's constitution is available on request.
Financial transparency: BCA will publish income and expenditure summaries to the membership quarterly.
